About the event

Thank you for your interest in Art. Feel. Play event by Mindward Centre!

As the name suggests, our motive is to take advantage of some expressive arts techniques to channelise some of the commonly experienced feeling states by all of us. These could be Feelings of pressure (pressure to be a certain way, to perform well at school/college/work/home/in relationships), fear of making mistakes, confronting general anxiety and excessive anger or sadness, or even states of happiness or non-feeling states as well such as empty, constant boredom, numbing and so on.

The goal is to create a safe space for ourselves to acknowledge these intrusive emotional states and then find a way to back to a safe calm state.

Colours, art, movement, writing are all various creative ways to give expression to our emotional experiences. And the good news is, there is no right or wrong feeling and hence no right or wrong way to express. In fact, there is no strict techniques such as how to hold a brush or what colours to use as well. We will be using expressive art techniques and simply use our intuition without second or third guessing it. What’s the worst that can happen? You won’t like what you end up painting? You could just simply paint over it. The point is to experience yourself in a healthy no-judgments and ignoring-the-voices-of-criticism- in-your head kind of way.

Meet Our Facilitators

Mahika Sharma

She’s a clinical psychologist who uses trauma informed approaches in her sessions. She has zero artsy skills or training and has found art, pottery, creative writing to be some of the most useful tools when it comes to catering to our wellbeing needs. She also thinks that painting is fun (even though she acknowledges that 7-8 year olds have better “drawing technique” skills than her).

Supriya Sharma Katara

She’s an artist, a designer (NIFT Alumni), a teacher (Sri Ram early years trained), a full time mom of two Gen Alpha kids and our inspiration! She has guided our team in simply relaxing and getting over our own performance anxiety when we took up the paint brush and found her observing us make attempts. You will find some of her paintings within the Mindward set up as well which she made for us keeping in mind our theme of Calm and Safe.

The Team

Vrinda and Roohi are therapists at Mindward and they love breaking the monotony at work (with back to back sessions and reports) using their own creative ways and lots of laughter. They also happen to love music and art and have delved into creative expressions therapy techniques themselves. Rohit and Aprajita are interning with us and constantly keep us on our toes to keep up with their curious brains, their innovative ideas and strategies while they bare the burden of a lot of planning that has gone in this event.

The Event (4PM to 6PM)

You are requested to come about 15 minutes early so that we can begin on time at 4pm.

4PM to 4:30 PM will be spent in breaking the ice, some introductory activities that may include some movement therapy techniques.

4:30 to 4:45 PM: we will actively discuss about how we will be using our canvas, about the option of colours and alternate choices such as water colours, crayons, paper work etc. Everyone will then go on to pick up their choice of Canvas and Colours and Set up their Easel.

5:45 PM Onwards we expect a lot of flow of colours and various expressions in art to occur. Simultaneously, our facilitators will be giving some specific prompts, strategy suggestions and remain on standby to help and any moment. Since this part is intuitive and different individuals will have their own way of experiencing their emotions and art, this process may vary from one person to another (this is why we have maintained limited number of seats so ensure individual attention).

We will have some playful tasks and activities as well by the end to acknowledge the state of wellbeing and fun experiences that accompany the play state.

Age Limit

Age is not a very strict criteria, so anyone above age of 7 years to 90 years  or more is welcome! (For children under 7 years, a different approach is used and set up will vary hence separate events are held on special requests).

Seats are confirmed once payment has been made. Hence we recommend for you to make the payment in advance to confirm your booking. Last minute arrivals would be accommodated only if we have any seats left.

Basic Recommendations

We recommend everyone to wear comfortable shoes and paint-environment friendly clothing. If you sign up for this event you will be requested to follow basic rules of group engagement such as maintaining sensitivity towards other participants, respecting everyone’s privacy and confidentiality if they request it.

Snacks and Beverages

There will be snacks (Vegetarian only) and hot and cold beverages (Non-Alcoholic only) and RO water throughout the duration of the event. We will be actively circulating them at the beginning and middle of the event; however, you are encouraged to ask us or take snack breaks as and when you see fit through your process.
